First

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2009
& For Muslims, SALAM MAAL HIJRAH
1430
May All Of Us Be Blessed With Strength & Wisdom
To Sail Through the Storm & Rough Seas Ahead. Amin.
We are writing once again to update you on what have been happening
at Fuchun CC MAEC since our last email update on 16 October 2008. If
you are a frequent visitor to
www.persadaku.org , you might have
noticed that the website has been updated regularly. But we have made
it a point not to send you "Info Email" too frequently.
The year 2008 was indeed our most active year
and, as far as we are concerned, the most successful year for the
MAEC. It is certainly difficult to match what we achieved last year,
but we'll do our best.
For 2008, it gave us tremendous pride and satisfaction to:
- Receive 2 (two) grants from
National Arts Council (NAC) for
organising:
> Malay
Traditional Dance Workshops incorporating Javanese Dance
> Pentas Lestari Seni II or Showcase
of Everlasting Arts
...In May
- Organise Pesta Bahasa & Budaya 2008
Malay Language & Cultural Fiesta
Sempena Bulan Bahasa 2008 In Conjunction With Malay
Language Month 2008
.....In July
- Be invited By Ministry of Information,
Communications & The Arts (MICA) to
present Special Malay Dance Performance in
conjunction with National Day Observance Ceremony 2008
- Participate in Prime
Minister Lee Hsien Loong's Dialogue Session with the Malay Community
Organised By People's Association MESRA & MAECs
in November ....and received unexpected publicity in the process
- AND TO TOP IT ALL,
we organise PANGGONG SANDIWARA "Klassik" - Stage
Drama of Malay Classic Films. The event also honoured veteran
artistes of Malay Film Industry in the heydays of Cathay Keris & Shaw
Brothers of the 50s, 60s and early 70s. Actually, we were ourselves
honoured by the presence of the who's who of the Malay Film Industry
then. Fourteen of them came and among others, from Kuala Lumpur, we
had:
> Tan Sri Senator Dr Jins Shamsudin, Immediate Past Chairman of
National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas);
> Datuk Mustapha Maarof, Chairman, Artistes Association of Malaysia (Persatuan Seniman
Malaysia);
> Datuk Aziz Sattar, famous actor of the Bujang Lapok series. Still
active in acting on Malaysian TV.
It was a 'reunion' of sort for them as they get
a rare chance to meet up with former colleagues of that era. They were
very touched that we organised such an event that have never been
organised by any organisations in Singapore. The tremendous reception
they received from the audience was most unexpected. It shows that
they are still popular here and the Malay community still watch
their films in Black & White.
