The Friendship Cup 2002
the little tournament with a big heart
Photo Highlights
This year's tournament is the best we've ever had in terms of the number of participating teams and organisations. We're not about to start bragging now.
But the support we received from everyone is simply tremendous - from the Marsiling Constituency Office, North West CDC, Marsiling Zone 7 RC especially the Chairman Mr Gerald Lee & Vice-Chairman Mr Jimmy Tan, the Managers & Coaches of all the teams, parents and volunteers who helped during the tournament and of course, the players of Woodlands Sunday Boys FC who contributed so much effort to it.
The tournament was held over 2 weekends i.e. 18, 19, 25 & 26 May. We had teams from almost all of Singapore and teams consisting of children of expatriates. In all, we had 50 teams participating with a total of 500 players of 14 nationalities as compared to 42 teams last year.
How's that for a little tournament?
We feel that the tournament was played in true spirit of friendship and goodwill despite the competitiveness of the matches.
With this we truly must appreciate the efforts of the players, coaches, managers and all the parents that were there supporting their children at play.
The weather was also very kind to us and, to me, this is due to the prayers of our children who were there playing in the tournament.
We wish to thank everyone who has made this tournament a success.
