The Friendship Cup 2001 the little tournament with a big heart

Photo Highlights

This web site is dedicated to The Friendship Cup - Junior 7-A-Side Soccer Tournament organised annually by North West Community Development Council (CDC) & Marsiling Residents' Committee Zone 7 (Singapore).

Each year the number of teams participating increases. As in previous years, the support we received had been tremendous. We had teams from almost all of Singapore participating. In total, there were more than 400 players involved representing 42 teams.

At the start of the Under 12 tournament on 3 June, everyone observed a minute of silence in respect of the demise of Sulaiman Hashim, a Singapore under-18 player, who was killed 2 days earlier. May God Bless His Soul. Amin.

Defending champions, Singapore American School, could not participate in this year's tournament as most of their players have returned to the States for the summer holidays. Mr Chip Miller, SAS's Head Coach, promised to send teams for next year's tournament.

However, this year's tournament saw the participation of another expatriate teams: European Soccer Academy (ESA) under the management of Mr Dean Wheatly, former Head Coach of Woodlands Wellington FC, and coached by Mr Michael Drake and Mr Ismail Hussain.

ESA won the under-12 tournament this year. Well done!! Great for a team that had just joined us. The tremendous enthusiasm of their players, coaches and supporters deserves special mention here.

This page and other linked pages are made up primarily of photo galleries and some information on the tournament. Feel free to browse and if you or someone you know is in any of the photos, well, you could point your cursor on the photo, right click and save it to disk. Happy surfing!!!
