On Saturday, 20 December 2003, Salam Aidilfitri Marsiling 2003 was organised by North West CDC, Marsiling CCC and all
Marsiling GROs. The Organising Committee was chaired by Fuchun CC MAEC Chairman, Yahya Hamid.
The response was tremendous. Despite the incessant rain, the Event still managed to attract the attendance of no less
than 700 people.
We had a very good line-up of artistes like MCs/ Commedians Ishak Ahmat & Ariff Samsudin, evergreen singer, Rahimah
Rahim, and Aisyah - Singapore's very own Siti Nurhalizah; Popular Special Guest Singer, Yasin; musicians from PA's
Singapore Malay Orchestra and Delima Group - a rare group of young musicians playing traditional Malay music.
The presence of distinguished guests from PA, other MAECs, Mediacorp, Mendaki, Sriwana – a well-known Malay cultural
association - and other organisations was also a highlight of the Event.
We would also like to express our appreciation to Mediacorp Radio, Warna 94.2 FM, which interviewed the organising
chairman earlier in the morning of the day of the event.
The Event was also televised on Suriachannel News the following evening at 8 pm and on ChannelNewsAsia the same
evening and the next day. Our Advisor, Mr Hawazi Daipi, Parliamentary Secretary for Education & Manpower was
interviewed on TV by Mediacorp News.
The coverage of the Event was quite lengthy from our observation. This was the first time that a Hari Raya event in
Marsiling Constituency has ever been televised.
We would also like to express our appreciation to producers of Mediacorp News for the media coverage given to the Event.
Thank you to everyone who has, in one way or other, made the Event a most memorable and successful one.
